The 14 leaves on each side symbolize Morelos and the people
who campaigned with him and provided the groundwork for
Mexico’s independence: Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla
My interpretation of the symbols for honor and the independence movement in Mexico.
Composed of 14 oak leaves, symbol of resistance, loyalty and deep roots; and 14 laurel leaves, representing military triumph and glory, joined by a symbol inspired by the 8 real coin minted by Don José María Morelos y Pavón with the promise to pay at the end of the independence movement.
The birds represent freedom, while the loupe stands for clarity and the capacity to analyze our history in order to understand our present.
